A mysterious artificial intelligence chatbot, dubbed “gpt2-chatbot,” has surfaced on an AI benchmarking platform, sparking speculation about its origin and potential links to OpenAI, the maker of ChatGPT. The bot’s capabilities are reportedly on par with, or even surpass, those of OpenAI’s most advanced AI system, GPT-4. The emergence of this bot has fueled excitement for OpenAI’s next major update, with many speculating that it could be a potential update to GPT-4, perhaps in the form of GPT-4.5.
The bot’s name references OpenAI’s GPT-2, a large language model that preceded the lab’s more advanced GPT-3 and GPT-4 systems. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman posted a cryptic tweet that seemed to reference the mystery chatbot, further fueling speculation about its origin. As the AI space continues to heat up, with major players like Meta, Google, and Mistral releasing new versions of their leading systems, the anticipation for OpenAI’s next move is palpable.
