Generative AI (gen AI) is transforming the role of software product managers (PMs), enhancing their productivity and accelerating product timelines. Traditionally seen as “mini CEOs,” PMs are now leveraging gen AI tools to streamline various stages of the product development life cycle (PDLC). This technology has been shown to improve time to market by 5%, increase PM productivity by 40%, and double the satisfaction with PM tasks. McKinsey’s research involved 40 PMs from diverse regions, who used gen AI tools across the discovery, viability, and build phases of PDLC. These tools helped PMs focus more on strategic tasks by automating routine content generation and data synthesis. The study highlighted the need for a strategic approach to gen AI adoption, emphasizing alignment with customer outcomes and careful integration into existing workflows.
