The rapid adoption of Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies, particularly generative AI models like ChatGPT, has taken the business world by storm. A recent McKinsey Global Institute survey reveals that 72% of companies are now using AI, a significant jump from 55% last year. The survey highlights that companies are using AI in more parts of their business, with half of the respondents indicating that their organizations have adopted AI in two or more business functions. The expectations for generative AI’s impact remain high, with three-quarters predicting significant or disruptive change in their industries.
This surge in adoption is seen across industries and regions, with companies using AI in marketing and sales, product development, and IT. The benefits of AI adoption are also evident, with respondents reporting reduced costs and higher revenues in business units deploying generative AI technology. Despite some skepticism about AI’s potential, the survey’s findings suggest that companies are reaping concrete benefits from AI adoption. As AI continues to evolve, it’s likely that we’ll see more significant productivity gains, but it’s essential to recognize the limitations of current AI capabilities and the challenges that lie ahead.
