Stability AI has launched Stable Audio Open 1.0, a new generative AI tool specialized in creating short audio samples like drum beats, riffs, and ambient sounds. This model contrasts with their commercial Stable Audio product, which can generate full-length tracks up to three minutes. Stable Audio Open is designed for non-commercial use under a specific community research license, allowing audio researchers and producers to experiment and innovate freely within certain limitations. The model was trained on data from FreeSound and the Free Music Archive, ensuring ethical sourcing without infringing on copyrights. Users can also fine-tune the model with custom audio data using the Stable Audio Tools library, which is open-source. This initiative aims to accelerate the adoption of generative audio technologies by providing accessible, high-quality tools for creative and research purposes. Stability AI continues to push the boundaries of AI-generated audio, promising more advancements in both commercial and open models.
