In a significant move, Argentina is set to establish its first artificial intelligence (AI) institute, Inaria, backed by the scientific and academic sector. This development is a result of the work done within the framework of VinTecAr 4.0, a technological liaison platform that groups around 50 entities involved in Argentina’s national innovation system. The new institute aims to provide a space for knowledge sharing, innovation, and technical support to both the public and private sectors. Inaria will also focus on promoting responsible AI use and creating a framework for sustainable and ethical innovation. The institute has already partnered with entities like Amazon and Universidad Interamericana to tackle AI issues. Inaria’s first task is to form a working committee to analyze proposals for AI in Argentina, with the ultimate goal of presenting a project to the national congress. While there is no scheduled date for the presentation of draft regulation, the institute is taking cues from European regulation to achieve its objectives.
