The Yale Department of Internal Medicine is harnessing the power of artificial intelligence (AI) to revolutionize the way they learn, teach, conduct research, and advance medicine. From using AI to improve patient care to enhancing medical education, faculty members are leveraging AI to unlock new opportunities. One study is exploring how emergency physician residents, internal medicine residents, and medical students interact with a new generative AI tool, GutGPT, to improve patient care. Another project is using AI to integrate information about sex, gender, and women’s health into the medical school curriculum, while a team is developing AI-based models to detect cardiovascular diseases through common imaging modalities. Additionally, AI is being used to annotate a vast hematology tissue bank, enabling researchers to access critical patient samples for the study of hematologic diseases. As AI continues to advance, it’s clear that it will play a vital role in shaping the future of medicine.
