Spawning AI, a startup founded by Jordan Meyer and Mathew Dryhurst, has launched Source.Plus, a platform that aims to revolutionize the way artists exert control over their work used in AI model training. The platform’s initial dataset comprises nearly 40 million public domain images and Creative Commons’ CC0 licensed images, allowing artists to opt-in and set their own terms for usage. This approach sets a higher bar for fair data sourcing, excluding images that aren’t licensed under CC0 and filtering out problematic content. With plans to expand beyond images to audio and video, Source.Plus has the potential to become a game-changer in the generative AI development process, providing artists with fair compensation and respect for their work.
