In a bid to prepare university leaders for the impending AI revolution, Coursera is launching a free online course, “Generative AI for University Leaders,” to educate administrators on the fundamentals of AI and its impact on education. The course, taught by Vanderbilt University’s Jules White, aims to equip leaders with the knowledge to adapt their institutions to the changing landscape. With only 23% of administrators and faculty feeling prepared for AI-related changes, this initiative is a step in the right direction. The course is structured into three modules, covering the use of AI tools in updating curriculum and setting university policy. Coursera’s CEO, Jeff Maggioncalda, emphasizes the need for schools to adapt quickly, warning that those who don’t will be left behind. The course is a response to the growing concern that educators are lagging behind students in embracing AI, with 93% of students in India already engaging with generative AI technology. The course is a crucial step in bridging this gap and preparing educators to lead the way in tackling the AI transformation.
