Artificial intelligence (AI) is set to transform photovoltaic (PV) systems by enhancing efficiency, reliability, and predictability in solar power generation. A team of researchers from Chinese and Malaysian universities published a paper in CAAI Artificial Intelligence Research, highlighting AI’s impact on PV systems. They reviewed AI applications in maximum power point tracking (MPPT), power forecasting, and fault detection. MPPT is critical for optimizing power output but poses challenges due to traditional methods’ inefficiencies. AI techniques have shown promise in overcoming these hurdles, offering both single and hybrid solutions. Power forecasting and fault detection are essential for grid stability and maintenance, respectively. AI algorithms excel in these areas by predicting power output and identifying system faults proactively. However, new challenges such as updated carbon neutrality standards, interdisciplinary collaboration, and the advent of smart grids continue to emerge. The study underscores AI’s potential to make clean energy more accessible and reliable, ultimately aiding in global carbon emission reduction.
