A year after acquiring MosaicML for $1.3 billion and rebranding it as Mosaic AI, Databricks is launching five new tools to enhance its AI solutions. These tools—Mosaic AI Agent Framework, Mosaic AI Agent Evaluation, Mosaic AI Tools Catalog, Mosaic AI Model Training, and Mosaic AI Gateway—aim to address key concerns such as model reliability, cost efficiency, and data privacy. CEO Ali Ghodsi and CTO Matei Zaharia emphasize that these additions allow enterprises to build more modular, mission-critical AI applications. The new tools facilitate easier integration of large language models (LLMs) with various external systems, improve model performance with proprietary data, and ensure a governed, cost-effective AI deployment. The Mosaic AI Agent Framework, for instance, offers developers the ability to create retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) applications, while the Mosaic AI Gateway provides a unified interface for querying and managing AI models. These developments reflect a shift towards more sophisticated AI uses among Databricks’ customers, who now favor open models and require advanced tools to manage them effectively.
