The COVID-19 pandemic has brought about a significant shift in the way students learn, with a growing preference for hybrid and online learning modalities. A recent report by Tyton Partners reveals a stark disconnect between students’ and instructors’ preferences for learning, with only 29% of students preferring face-to-face learning compared to over 50% of professors. The report also highlights the increasing use of artificial intelligence (AI) among students, with 59% using generative AI at least once a month, compared to 36% of instructors and 40% of administrators. This disparity is concerning, as it may lead to a lack of understanding among faculty and administrators about the tools and technologies that students are using. The report emphasizes the need for educators to catch up with their students in terms of understanding and embracing AI, in order to create effective policies and guidelines for its use.
