Oracle’s advanced chips will play a pivotal role in scaling OpenAI’s operations. Previously, OpenAI relied solely on Microsoft for its compute needs, with Microsoft investing $13 billion for a significant stake and exclusive licensing rights. However, the growing demand for ChatGPT has necessitated additional resources. Despite the new partnership, both OpenAI and Microsoft emphasize that their core strategic relationship remains unchanged. The collaboration will allow OpenAI to leverage Microsoft Azure’s AI platform on Oracle’s infrastructure for tasks like AI inference. Meanwhile, the pre-training of OpenAI’s advanced models will continue on supercomputers developed in partnership with Microsoft.
