The tech giants, Microsoft, Apple, and OpenAI, are in a heated race to dominate the burgeoning market of generative AI. While they collaborate on certain projects, they are also fiercely competing to outdo each other. To assess their chances of success, I evaluated them based on four key tests: generating revenue from generative AI products or services, monetizing their investments, possessing industry-leading capabilities, and building or acquiring the necessary capabilities. Nvidia, often overlooked in this context, emerges as a dark horse that could potentially outshine them all. My analysis reveals that Microsoft has potential but needs to strengthen its generative AI capabilities, OpenAI has a clear business model and industry-leading capabilities, and Apple is late to the game but has a loyal user base. Ultimately, I believe Nvidia is best positioned to dominate the generative AI landscape.
