Concerns are mounting over private engineering colleges in Hyderabad auctioning seats in high-demand B.Tech specializations, such as Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, at exorbitant prices, ranging from Rs 15 lakh to Rs 25 lakh. Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University, Hyderabad (JNTUH), which oversees 216 affiliated colleges, is currently rushing to complete the affiliation process, halted earlier due to the election code, before the EAPCET counseling begins. The Telangana Admission and Fee Regulatory Committee (TAFRC) has yet to issue new fee guidelines for the upcoming academic block, adding to the chaos. Students and parents are distressed, as they are forced to pay hefty sums even before the official counseling process starts. Calls for stricter regulations and online counseling to curb the exploitation by private colleges have been made, but no significant actions have been taken by authorities yet.
