The Army’s LLM will be trained using the Army’s data, unlike other LLM models like ChatGPT. The pilot is part of a larger initiative called “Defend AI,” which aims to develop algorithms that can be implemented into an Army and DoD system. The program’s goal is to increase productivity and mitigate risks associated with AI algorithms. The Army is taking a multi-layered approach to AI implementation, with the LLM pilot being a key aspect of this effort. The program also aims to address concerns around bias, with the Army planning to use ethical and responsible tools to eliminate bias.
