The 2024 Work Trend Index, a joint report by Microsoft and LinkedIn, reveals a remarkable 88% of workers in Hong Kong are actively using generative AI in their daily work, making the city a pioneer in AI adoption. This significant shift in workplace dynamics is attributed to employees’ willingness to empower themselves with innovations, with 86% of AI users bringing their own AI tools to work. The report also highlights a top-down approach to promoting AI adoption, with 23% of AI power users likely hearing about the importance of using generative AI at work from their CEO. Furthermore, 77% of leaders prioritize hiring candidates with AI skills over experience, emphasizing the value placed on AI proficiency. However, only 14% of AI power users receive tailored AI training, highlighting the need for business leaders to invest in skills development to gain a competitive edge. This report serves as a wake-up call for leaders to channel employees’ enthusiasm for AI experimentation into AI transformation and adopt enterprise-grade AI solutions for more secure deployment.
