The widespread adoption of generative artificial intelligence (AI) in the UK has not led to significant job losses, but rather has been leveraged to augment existing roles, a recent study by Nash Squared has found. Contrary to fears that AI would have an immediate impact on employment, the study reveals that nearly three-quarters of UK tech leaders have deployed generative AI to support their employees, with 99% stating that it has not resulted in job replacements. Instead, more than half of respondents are utilizing AI to enhance existing jobs, indicating an evolutionary rather than revolutionary impact on the workforce. The study also highlights concerns around the misuse of AI tools and the need for a clear business case beyond personal productivity. Despite these challenges, investment in technology remains strong, with 43% of UK tech leaders expecting to increase their tech budget in the next 12 months.
