Artificial Intelligence (AI) is transforming the fast-food industry with its capabilities to simulate human intelligence through machines. Major fast-food chains such as Domino’s, McDonald’s, Taco Bell, KFC, and Popeyes are leveraging AI to streamline their operations, enhance customer experience, and reduce food wastage. Domino’s has been using AI since 2014 with a voice assistant called Dom that takes customer orders via their app, and they’ve recently integrated technology in their stores to start making pizzas before the order is fully placed. McDonald’s has introduced touch-screen kiosks and experimented with AI-powered drive-thrus, though they recently withdrew this technology in the US due to ordering mishaps. Taco Bell and KFC, under Yum Brands, use a system called “Recommended Ordering” to predict inventory needs, reducing food waste and costs. Popeyes, on the other hand, is using AI to take drive-thru orders in the UK with a voice-activated assistant named ‘AL’ to enhance order accuracy and customer service.
