However, analyses by WIRED and developer Robb Knight suggest that Perplexity may be using questionable methods to achieve this, such as bypassing the Robots Exclusion Protocol to scrape web content. The startup claims to provide reliable answers with proper citations but has been found to sometimes paraphrase inaccurately and misattribute information. Additionally, there are concerns about the transparency of its web-scraping practices, as Perplexity has removed references to its IP addresses from its documentation, complicating efforts to track its data collection activities.
