The article explores the challenges of AI adoption in the workplace and presents innovative strategies to overcome employee skepticism. Despite promises of increased productivity and efficiency, many workers remain wary of AI technologies, particularly regarding the accuracy of outputs. To address this adoption gap, researchers at Asana’s Work Innovation Lab collaborated with Stanford students on a “Friction Bot Challenge.” This exercise yielded valuable insights into effective AI implementation strategies. Key approaches include reframing problems through friction reduction, embracing constraints to fuel creativity, fostering parallel play to encourage collaboration, and establishing clear evaluation criteria. The challenge demonstrated that hands-on experience with AI design can transform perceptions, helping employees view AI as a collaborative teammate rather than a mere tool. Leaders are encouraged to actively involve their teams in designing and building AI solutions to make the technology more accessible and relevant to their work.
