Lee Soo-man, founder of SM Entertainment, is urging the South Korean music industry to embrace artificial intelligence (AI) to invigorate creativity and enhance fan engagement. Speaking at the International Confederation of Societies of Authors and Composers, Lee highlighted the transformative potential of AI and chatbot technologies. He emphasized that AI could revolutionize the songwriting process and improve public relations efforts, providing K-pop with a competitive edge globally. However, Lee also addressed the challenges posed by AI, such as copyright infringement, economic disadvantages for creators, and risks like data leaks and misinformation. To mitigate these issues, he suggested integrating AI with blockchain technology to protect intellectual property rights through unified smart-contract systems. South Korea’s government is already making significant AI investments, including a $6.9 billion pledge to develop the local ecosystem and a $526 million fund for AI use cases in public services. Lee’s vision, coupled with governmental support, could reshape the future of K-pop and the broader entertainment industry.
