Masayoshi Son, CEO of SoftBank Group Corp., has made a bold declaration that artificial intelligence (AI) thousands of times smarter than humans will become a reality in the near future. Speaking at the company’s annual general meeting, Son envisioned a world where AI surpasses human intelligence, dubbing it artificial super intelligence (ASI). He predicted that ASI will arrive in 10 years, while artificial general intelligence (AGI), which is one to 10 times smarter than humans, will emerge in the next three to five years. Son’s ambitious claims come as a surprise, given SoftBank’s recent struggles with startup investments. However, his vision for ASI could revolutionize the way humans live and work. While some may view ASI as a threat to human existence, Son’s pronouncements could also be seen as an opportunity for humanity to adapt and evolve.
