The increasing presence of generative AI in the workplace has led to a significant shift in workers’ expectations and concerns about their future careers. A recent global study, surveying over 150,000 workers, revealed that employees are now seeking a new kind of job security rooted in reskilling and career flexibility. This shift is driven in part by the rise of GenAI, which has led to a persistent talent shortage in most Western economies. The study found that over 60% of job seekers believe they have the upper hand in labor market negotiations, citing a mismatch between available and needed skills as a key factor. Furthermore, work-life balance emerged as a top priority for workers, while job security remains a major concern. However, this concern is not about losing their current job, but rather about being employable in the long term and having opportunities to develop new skills. The study’s findings highlight the need for employers to provide opportunities for reskilling and upskilling to stay competitive in the GenAI era.
