Stability AI, a generative AI startup, has appointed Prem Akkaraju, former CEO of visual effects company Weta Digital, as its new full-time CEO. This news comes nearly three months after the company’s founder and former CEO, Emad Mostaque, resigned due to concerns from investors about the company’s financial viability and business operations. Akkaraju’s appointment is seen as a significant move to stabilize the company, which has been facing increasing competitive pressure in the image generation space. Despite the challenges, Stability AI has diversified its offerings beyond image generation, with models such as Stable Code, Stable LM, and Stable Audio and Video. The company has also introduced a membership model and API access, which could potentially help boost its revenue. With Akkaraju at the helm, Stability AI is expected to receive a cash infusion from an investor group led by Sean Parker.
