Michigan Technological University has announced the creation of the Center for Artificial Intelligence, spearheaded by the Institute of Computing and Cyber Systems. The center, under the leadership of inaugural director Vinh Nguyen, aims to advance AI research and prepare a new generation of professionals by establishing key external partnerships and addressing contemporary challenges. Nguyen emphasizes the opportunities and challenges presented by rapid AI advancements, and the center’s focus will span various fields such as computing, transportation, manufacturing, sustainability, humanities, and health. Evolving from the Data Science Center, the new AI Center leverages Michigan Tech’s strengths in engineering and computing to foster innovation, interdisciplinary collaboration, and educational excellence. With a robust team of 30 faculty members and $12.8 million in research projects, the center is a hub for interdisciplinary AI research initiatives, promoting ethical and trustworthy AI development. It offers cutting-edge educational programs and professional activities to ensure a well-prepared and knowledgeable workforce in the AI domain.
