Two 18-year-old best friends, Christopher Fitzgerald and Nicholas Van Landschoot, have raised a $500,000 pre-seed investment for their startup APIGen, which aims to build custom APIs from natural language prompts. The investment, secured while they were still in high school, came from Varana Capital after they impressed the VC firm with their pitch and demo. APIGen’s platform will allow users to request custom APIs that can perform complex tasks, such as connecting an e-commerce website to a database or instructing a drone to fly around a perimeter and capture images. The founders, who met on their school’s debate team, have put their college plans on hold to focus on their startup, which has already garnered interest from businesses and enthusiasts in the AI community. With the investment, APIGen is poised to make a big impact in the $7 billion-plus API market.
