ElevenLabs, an AI audio creation company founded by ex-Palantir engineers, has launched its first iOS app, “ElevenLabs Reader: AI Audio.” The app enables users to convert text files or web links into audio narration, allowing them to listen to content while multitasking. Initially available only in English, the app plans to support over 29 languages soon. Users can download it for free from the Apple App Store, requiring iOS 15 or newer. The app features pre-loaded public domain stories like “Cinderella” and “Sherlock Holmes,” and allows users to add their own content via text input, URLs, or files. It also integrates with iOS’s Share Sheet for easy sharing from Safari. Users can select from 11 different voices and adjust narration speed between 0.8x and 2x. While the app has some formatting and conversion issues, it promises rapid improvements. Questions remain about data privacy and storage, which the company has yet to address.
