Temple Independent School District is embarking on a multi-year plan to incorporate Artificial Intelligence (AI) into its classrooms, starting with a cohort of teachers who will use AI for the 2024-2025 school year. The district’s approach is cautious, with a focus on generative AI for assessment, instruction, and measuring student progress. According to Superintendent Dr. Bobby Ott, embracing AI is inevitable, and the district is taking a slow and deliberate approach to ensure that values and core academics are not compromised. The teachers will undergo self-paced explorations and training before implementing AI in the classroom, with the goal of enhancing teaching and learning. The district is committed to transparency and will adjust its plan as necessary. While some may fear that AI will replace human teachers, Ott reassures that this is not the case, and the district is taking measures to ensure that AI is used to support, not replace, educators.
