Bill Gates is calling on major technology companies to responsibly use clean electricity as they pursue the substantial energy requirements of artificial intelligence. He emphasizes the importance of legitimate green electricity purchases and the use of sustainable materials in construction. Gates highlights the challenges faced by the U.S. electricity system in handling large demand increases. To address this, he proposes nuclear energy as a reliable baseload green energy source. TerraPower, Gates’ nuclear energy company, has begun constructing its first plant in Wyoming. Gates envisions multiple reactors built by 2030 in the U.S. and plans to collaborate with nuclear-friendly allies. Other tech giants are also investing in nuclear power as AI’s energy demands grow. Gates believes AI is a significant change agent and not overhyped. He also advocates for tax credits and project financing to reduce the cost difference between clean and conventional products until green technologies achieve scale.
