Figma has launched new AI features to its design tool, aimed at accelerating workflows and enhancing team collaboration in software development. Currently available in a limited beta, Figma AI can generate design drafts from simple prompts, offer multiple perspectives for expressing visions, facilitate rapid prototyping, and more. This initiative is part of Figma’s strategy to evolve from a design tool to a comprehensive product development platform, positioning itself strongly against competitors like Adobe. Figma AI automates repetitive design tasks and makes it easier for non-designers to visualize feedback, thus elevating the work of professional designers. Key features include AI-driven design creation, visual search, automated layer organization, and AI-powered prototyping. The visual search feature stands out by allowing users to find specific design elements using images or screenshots, similar to Google Lens. While Figma AI is free during the beta phase, it will be monetized upon general release. Importantly, administrators have control over team content data, and can opt-in or out of using it for AI training. Additionally, Figma announced Figma Slides for interactive presentations and new developer tools to bridge the gap between design and development workflows.
