Jerry Pratt has left Figure, a leading robotics firm, to co-found Persona AI, a new startup in the burgeoning humanoid robot industry. Pratt, an MIT research scientist, joined Figure as CTO in 2022 after departing from his own startup, Boardwalk Robotics. His exit from Figure was publicly announced last week via LinkedIn, where he also unveiled Persona AI, co-founded with Nic Radford, a robotics industry veteran with experience at NASA, Nauticus Robotics, and Jacobi Motors. Persona AI is in its nascent stages, having been established only a month ago. The founders aim to attract 10 to 20 additional “founders” to help shape the company, emphasizing a strong team spirit. The startup’s initial pitch is similar to other humanoid robotics firms, focusing on technological advancements in computer vision, perception algorithms, and machine learning. Pratt’s departure from Figure was mutual and influenced by geographical constraints, as he was commuting between Pensacola, Florida, and California. Persona AI will operate out of Pensacola and Houston, with the latter as its primary headquarters.
