The rapidly advancing field of generative artificial intelligence, or GenAI, is poised to disrupt the legal profession, particularly for junior lawyers. A 2023 Thomson Reuters report forecasts an immense impact on junior lawyers, and AI tools are already capable of drafting complaints and performing routine tasks. To maintain and grow their careers, lawyers must adapt to these changes by embracing new technologies, leveling up their practice, and listening to their clients to provide the services they want. This requires not only mastering the changing practice of law but also understanding the complex technological and regulatory environment that clients operate in. Lawyers must gain expertise in technology law and regulation, advise clients on how to manage their legal and business issues, and understand how business is being done. This demands a shift in how we define the role of a lawyer, from discrete problem-solver to fundamental business advisor.
