Comtech has launched SmartAssist™, an AI-powered solution designed to manage non-emergency calls, significantly easing the workload on 9-1-1 call handlers and addressing staffing shortages. SmartAssist employs advanced AI chatbots capable of understanding and responding to low-priority calls, allowing telecommunicators to focus on mission-critical emergencies. This innovative tool is part of Comtech’s broader SmartNG portfolio, which aims to integrate Next Generation 911 services with AI solutions to optimize emergency communication workflows. The SmartAssist solution can seamlessly integrate with existing administrative phone systems, requiring no additional equipment changes for immediate implementation. Comtech is currently partnering with multiple agencies across the U.S. in pre-market trials to enhance non-emergency response rates and situational awareness. By streamlining the handling of non-emergency inquiries, SmartAssist not only improves response times but also mitigates the impact of staffing shortages in Emergency Communications Centers. As part of its future plans, Comtech intends to expand its SmartNG portfolio to include capabilities such as language identification, transcription, and advanced analytics, further enhancing public safety and emergency response services.
