The legal industry is taking a major step towards establishing shared standards for the use and measurement of generative AI tools, with the formation of the Legal Industry AI Benchmarking Collaboration initiative by LITIG, the Legal IT Innovators Group, with support from Artificial Lawyer. This initiative aims to address the growing need for transparency and trust in the use of AI tools, following the recent debate sparked by the Stanford University report on the reliability of AI legal research tools. The project calls on all interested parties to participate, with the first in-person meeting set to take place in London in July. The goal is to agree on standard tests and methodologies for measuring AI accuracy, allowing for a level playing field across the industry. This collaboration is crucial, as the industry grapples with the challenges of ensuring the reliability and accuracy of AI-generated results.
