The State Department has launched a new artificial intelligence hub, AI.State, to centralize its AI efforts and encourage employees to experiment with AI technology to improve their diplomatic work. Secretary of State Antony Blinken announced the initiative, which includes tools like State Chat and North Star, to improve analysis and free up employees to focus on high-priority tasks. The department is prioritizing an “AI-ready workforce” and is exploring the use of generative AI to help employees plan their next career steps. Blinken emphasized the importance of sharing use cases to inform the agency’s approach to AI, and officials are encouraging employees to try out the new tools and provide feedback. The initiative aims to automate routine tasks, summarize and translate research, and improve media monitoring, with the goal of fully integrating AI into the State Department’s work within the next 10 years.
