A recent study by (un)Common Logic has ranked Austin as the sixth-highest city in the US for artificial intelligence job displacement, with over 10% of workers in the area at risk of AI-related automation. This translates to approximately 126,000 workers in the Austin area who may face job displacement due to AI. The study identified budget analysts, loan officers, accountants, insurance sales agents, and paralegals as the jobs most at risk of being replaced by AI, as their tasks and knowledge can be easily learned and replicated by AI systems. These roles account for around 9% of all workers nationally. On the other hand, jobs that require human skills such as dancers, firefighters, and plumbers are less likely to be automated. The study also found that high-income workers are more likely to be impacted by AI, with five states having high concentrations of workers in the knowledge sector, making them more vulnerable to AI-related automation.
