Workers’ confidence in generative AI has increased significantly over the past year, according to a Boston Consulting Group (BCG) survey involving over 13,100 respondents from various organizational levels. However, this rise in confidence is paralleled by a rise in anxiety, with many employees fearing job displacement due to AI advancements. The survey revealed a 16% increase in AI confidence from 2023 to 2024, alongside a 5% uptick in anxiety over the same period. The concern is most pronounced among frontline workers, 22% of whom expressed worry about AI affecting their job security, compared to 18% of managers and 15% of leaders. In response, companies are increasingly focusing on upskilling programs to bridge the AI knowledge gap, aiming to alleviate fears and better prepare their workforce for an AI-integrated future. Leaders are more confident and better trained in AI compared to their subordinates, highlighting the need for widespread educational efforts.
