Amazon has made a significant move in the artificial intelligence (AI) arena by hiring key personnel from AI startup Adept, including co-founders and team members. This strategic acquisition mirrors a similar action taken by Microsoft earlier this year. The move is seen as Amazon’s effort to bolster its AI capabilities and counter perceptions that it lags behind competitors in this crucial technology sector. Adept’s co-founder and CEO, David Luan, along with several other co-founders and employees, will join Amazon, while Adept continues to operate independently. Amazon will also license some of Adept’s technology, which specializes in automating business functions. This talent acquisition is part of Amazon’s broader strategy to enhance its AI offerings, including the development of a large language model and the integration of generative AI into its Alexa voice assistant. The new hires will work on artificial general intelligence (AGI) and other AI-related projects across Amazon’s various departments.
