Comtech’s latest innovation, SmartAssist, is poised to transform the way Emergency Communications Centers (ECCs) and Public Safety Answering Points (PSAPs) manage non-emergency calls. This artificial intelligence (AI)-backed solution uses chatbots to answer and triage low-priority calls, freeing up human telecommunicators to focus on critical emergencies. With staffing shortages being a major challenge for ECCs, SmartAssist is designed to streamline workflows, reduce response times, and improve situational awareness. The solution can handle a wide range of non-emergency inquiries, from text messages to foreign language requests, and provides robust performance metrics. Comtech is already partnering with multiple agencies to pilot SmartAssist, which is the first solution in its SmartNG portfolio of services. This portfolio will converge Next Generation 911 and AI solutions to optimize ECC/PSAP workflows, and Comtech is building out the portfolio to include other interoperable AI-backed capabilities.
