Meta is changing its “Made with AI” photo tag to “AI Info” across all its apps to address confusion and user complaints. Initially, photographers reported that real photos with minor edits were incorrectly labeled as AI-created. The new tag aims to provide clearer context, indicating that a photo might have been modified using AI tools rather than being entirely AI-generated. Despite the label change, the underlying technology for detecting AI usage in photos remains the same, relying on metadata standards like C2PA and IPTC. This means that photos edited with tools such as Adobe’s Generative AI Fill will still be tagged under the new label. Meta hopes this adjustment aligns better with user expectations and provides more accurate information. However, the new label will not fully address issues of undetected fully AI-generated photos or specify the extent of AI-powered editing. Social networks and companies like Adobe will need to continue refining guidelines to balance transparency and fairness for photographers.
