Rak Garg’s journey into venture capital was unexpected. Initially aspiring to be a startup founder, Garg’s stint at Atlassian shaped his interest in entrepreneurship. Yet, his attempt to start a company made him realize that founding wasn’t his calling. Through these efforts, he met Enrique Salem of Bain Capital Ventures (BCV), who encouraged him to explore venture capital. In May 2021, Garg joined BCV and quickly became captivated by the field. Specializing in cybersecurity startups and AI infrastructure, Garg’s impact was immediate. By January 2023, at just 27, he became BCV’s youngest partner. Garg’s early exposure to cybersecurity, coupled with his academic and professional experiences, uniquely positioned him to excel. His journey from hacking video game consoles to investing in cutting-edge tech firms is a testament to his adaptability and expertise. Now, Garg not only identifies promising startups but also collaborates closely with founders to drive their success, exemplifying the multifaceted role of a modern venture capitalist.
