Renen Hallak, CEO of VAST Data, argues that AI requires a new kind of operating system revolution in the enterprise, one built on a scalable data platform capable of managing vast amounts of structured and unstructured data. Operating systems have evolved from the bespoke designs of the early computing era to the dominant players we see today. However, with the rise of generative AI, there is a growing need for an OS that can dynamically manage resources, process data in real-time, ensure security, support edge computing, and abstract complex details effectively.

The ideal AI-operating system should integrate middleware and frameworks, support distributed computing, and incorporate power management to be environmentally friendly. It should facilitate the complex interactions between generative AI applications and various enterprise assets, ensuring AI applications receive the resources they need. Intuit’s development of GenOS is one example, but a universally adopted AIOS will be challenging to build due to the diverse AI hardware and software ecosystems.

Hallak will delve deeper into this topic at VB Transform 2024, discussing the potential of an AI OS to redefine generative AI usage. He will emphasize the importance of starting with a scalable data platform and explore strategic considerations for building cost-effective, scalable, and future-proof AI infrastructure. This session aims to provide attendees with fresh insights into AI frameworks, data management, and processing.
