Amazon has decided to discontinue its Astro for Business device, a security robot designed for small- and medium-sized businesses, just seven months after its launch. In an email to customers and employees, Amazon clarified that the decision was made to focus on enhancing the home version of Astro, which debuted in 2021. The home version offers features such as home security, pet detection, message delivery, and a cargo bin with a 4.4-pound capacity. An Amazon spokesperson emphasized the company’s commitment to consumer robotics for the home, stating that discontinuing Astro for Business would help accelerate progress in making Astro the best in-home robot. Astro for Business devices will cease functioning on September 25, with Amazon recommending recycling through its program. Customers affected by this move will receive a $300 credit and refunds for any unused Astro Secure subscriptions. The discontinuation affects an unspecified number of customers, but it is implied that demand was insufficient to justify continued investment.
