Overview of the Initiative
A new project at East Tennessee State University (ETSU) seeks to enhance flood preparedness in Central Appalachia using generative artificial intelligence. Funded with $20,000 from the Earth Science Information Partners (ESIP) Lab, this initiative aims to create automated climate resilience dashboards. These dashboards will provide vital information for flood monitoring and response, especially after the severe flooding caused by Hurricane Helene in September.
Key Features of the Project
- Data Enhancement: The project will utilize generative AI to improve the collection and processing of various data sources, making the dashboard more efficient.
- Community Engagement: A Community Engagement Studio will be held to ensure the dashboard is user-friendly and meets community needs.
- Comprehensive Information: The dashboard will feature historical flooding data, predictions, demographic information, and health care access, making it a valuable resource for residents.
- Future Expansion: Plans exist to extend the dashboard’s coverage to 169 counties across several states, enhancing its impact on flood preparedness.
