This system uses a blend of generative AI and computer vision to detect issues such as damage or incorrect product specifications like color or size. The technology operates in an imaging tunnel where it scans items, and if a defect is identified, the item is removed from shipping. This preventative approach not only boosts customer satisfaction by reducing the receipt of defective goods but also enhances sustainability by cutting down on returns and associated carbon emissions. The data collected by Project P.I. is also shared with Amazon’s selling partners to help reduce errors across the board. Additionally, Amazon plans to expand this technology across more fulfillment centers by 2024 and continues to leverage AI in other areas to improve efficiency and sustainability in its operations.
