This weekend, the Canadian Grand Prix will feature a trophy designed with the help of artificial intelligence, courtesy of Amazon Web Services (AWS). The design team worked with Formula 1 to generate ideas and prompts using AWS’s programs, which were then used to create a unique design. The final trophy, selected for its “stunning and unique aerodynamic design and signature airflow twist,” will be revealed on Sunday during the race. While AI-generated designs can be impressive, it’s hard not to feel that human creativity is still unmatched. The thought of an AI program coming up with a design as iconic as the gorilla trophy from the French Grand Prix seems unlikely, despite the capabilities of AI. The collaboration between AWS and F1 is an interesting one, and it will be fascinating to see how this AI-designed trophy compares to its human-designed predecessors.
