Elon Musk has decided to drop his lawsuit against OpenAI and its CEO, Sam Altman, which accused the company of breaching a non-existent contract and straying from its mission to create AI for the betterment of humanity. The case, filed in a California state court, was dismissed without prejudice, allowing Musk to potentially refile in the future. This move came just a day before a scheduled hearing to review OpenAI’s request to dismiss the case, and a day after Musk threatened to ban Apple devices at his companies if Apple integrated OpenAI’s technology into its products. Musk’s lawsuit claimed that OpenAI breached an agreement with its founding members to remain a nonprofit and keep its technology open source. However, Musk’s case faced criticism for lacking a concrete “Founding Agreement,” and OpenAI countered that Musk’s assertions were baseless and driven by his desire to control the company by merging it with Tesla. OpenAI firmly denied the existence of any such agreement with Musk.
