Particle, a news-reading startup founded by ex-Twitter engineers, is collaborating with Reuters to explore innovative business models suitable for the AI era. The startup aims to address the challenges faced by newsrooms, such as declining traffic and layoffs, by leveraging AI to summarize news from multiple publishers without compromising revenue. Particle recently secured $10.9 million in Series A funding led by Lightspeed Venture Partners, with contributions from Axel Springer. Unlike other failed ventures in the news aggregation space, Particle’s unique approach focuses on analyzing stories from various perspectives, ensuring a comprehensive understanding for readers. Particle’s co-founder, Sara Beykpour, emphasizes the importance of delivering value beyond AI summaries by providing a multi-perspective view of stories. The startup uses a combination of AI technologies to achieve this. Currently in private beta, Particle plans to expand its platform to support web and Android users. The company is also recruiting for key roles to continue its development and collaboration with publishers.
