Databricks is enhancing its support for enterprises developing generative AI applications with new Mosaic AI capabilities. Previewed at the Data + AI Summit, these features aim to simplify the training and management of generative AI applications. The Mosaic AI Agent Framework, now in public preview, accelerates the development of AI applications using retrieval augmented generation (RAG), making it easier for enterprises to implement RAG pipelines. Alongside this, Databricks has introduced the AI Agent Evaluation tool, also in public preview, which uses AI to ensure high-quality outputs and allows human feedback. Another significant addition is the Mosaic AI Gateway, designed to help enterprises manage their LLMs and generative AI applications by providing a unified interface for querying, managing, and deploying models. This interface also includes guardrails for monitoring and controlling model usage. The Mosaic AI Tools Catalog, currently in private preview, offers tools for running and operating LLMs. Analysts suggest these new features will solidify Databricks’ market position, although it still faces competition from Snowflake, which has a strong platform and greater ease of use. Ultimately, both companies are converging on similar goals from different starting points in the AI and data management landscape.
