Microsoft has announced that it is delaying the broad release of its Recall artificial intelligence feature for Copilot+ PCs, opting instead to first release it as a preview to members of the Windows Insider Program. The move is seen as a cautious approach to deploying AI capabilities, with the company prioritizing security and quality standards over expediency. Recall, which uses on-device AI to create a searchable visual timeline of a user’s screen activity, has raised concerns about privacy and security. To address these concerns, Microsoft is implementing additional security measures, including “just in time” decryption and encryption of the search index database. The delay also reflects Microsoft’s commitment to its Secure Future Initiative, which prioritizes security and privacy in the development of AI and other advanced technologies.
